How's Your Soil?
How’s your soil? It’s not a grammatical error, I promise. I didn’t misspell “soul”. I’m asking you how’s your soil?
Let’s imagine for a moment that you are a plant and you’ve been planted by your creator in this earth. Unlike most plants, you have free will and you decide where you’re planted and where you grow. So during your lifetime of being planted, you’re in charge of your environment. You decide who or what feeds you. You decide how healthy or unhealthy your soil is.
Think about where you are currently planted. When was the last time you evaluated your environment? It’s time to ask the question: How healthy is your soil? Sometimes I think we forget how in charge we are of our own lives. Sure, unexpected things happen, but one of the things that you do have control of is the environment that you place yourself in. We have to be intentional about where we are planted so that we are able to mature into what we are called to be. If you are not pursuing growth, rotting is inevitable.
If you do a quick google search on soil, you’ll see that there are 6 different types of soils. Some soil is fertile and other soils are quite literally made up of rotted plants. Whoa. So depending on what type of “soil” aka environment you’re in, will in fact determine your quality of life.
Who are you associating with? Are they rotted plants or fertile plants? Are the people in your life blocking or sharing the sunshine? Are they giving you life or are they rotted and draining the life out of you? Take a minute to think about how many times in conversation you are talking about other people instead of building each other up. It’s so important to find healthy soil with healthy people in it to help you grow.
Rotted plants turn to rotted soil. The last thing that you want is a rotten heart and mind. In order to become a healthy, vibrant, and beautiful “soul” you must guard yourself from things that will rot you from the inside out. As we are coming into a new year and reflection is at the forefront of our minds, spend some time evaluating where you want to be planted and who you want to be planted with. 2019 is another opportunity to be strong, encouraged, hopeful, fresh, and full of life.
